1199SEIU technical and professional workers in Massachusetts have begun to organize a technical and professional council. Some 25 techs and pros at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth gathered together back in March to begin the process. At that meeting members identified specific issues facing this particular group. Among the issues identified were training and professional advancement, changing rules of certification in specific titles, and the need for increased recognition and respect.Members developed a survey which they conducted in March and April. Jordan workers are now building state-wide. Techs and pros from Cape Cod and Falmouth hospitals attended the second meeting. At the May 17th statewide health system’s meeting, Michelle Joyce (below) presented the idea of a statewide council to the assembly. A professional and technical recognition day is being planned for the fall.
