1199 was originally organized in 1932 as a Union of pharmacists and drugstore workers. In addition to our current hospital-based pharmacists, the 1199SEIU Pharmaceutical Division today includes over 5000 pharmacists and other employees of the Rite Aid and Pathmark chains, and independent drugstores throughout New York. Human Service Workers
While 1199SEIU is almost entirely comprised of healthcare workers in every sector of the Union, we also represent several thousand non-healthcare workers in human service organizations such as the Legal Aid Society and the New York Blood Center, and in educational institutions such as Columbia and Yeshiva Universities. Retired Members
