We are pleased that New York’s Medicaid waiver has been approved. 1199SEIU and Greater New York Hospital Association have advocated for the waiver’s approval for more than a year.
A small portion of New York’s huge, unprecedented reserves can close the Medicaid funding gap, save struggling hospitals, and protect low-income seniors, children, families and people with disabilities. More than 7 million New Yorkers rely on state-funded Medicaid for healthcare coverage, yet Medicaid pays hospitals and their clinics 30% less than the actual cost of care.
