UHealth Tower nurse Martha Wydra has many reasons to beam with pride these days. She recently graduated from NSU, Nova Southeastern University. She earned her Masters and Doctorate degrees simultaneously. As a working mother of four children, this was no easy feat.

UHealth Tower medical assistant Vanessa West has many reasons to feel proud. The 36 year old single mother recently went back to school to earn her Associates degree at Miami Dade College. She was able to get the resources she needed to get her degree through the 1199SEIU Training and Upgrading Fund – a tuition reimbursement program for healthcare workers that is included in their union contract.

The overwhelming majority of healthcare workers at UHealth Tower, formerly the University of Miami hospital, have ratified their new contract.

Registered Nurse Tonya Moore touches her patients in many ways. In addition to providing quality care to patients in UHealth Tower’s 11 South oncology department, Moore crochets hats, blankets and scarves for those who could use a thoughtful gift to help lift up their spirits.

From nurse degree programs and continuing education courses to citizenship classes, the 1199SEIU Training and Upgrading Fund has a variety of programs and resources to help UHealth Tower staff reach their educational goals.
