Healthcare Workers Applaud House Budget for New Healthcare Investments
Budget provides a boost for nursing homes, PCAs and other crucial programs that care for state’s most vulnerable residents
Boston, MA (April 10, 2019) – The following is a statement from Tim Foley, executive vice president of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, following the release of the House budget.
"We want to thank Speaker DeLeo and members of the House for their leadership and commitment to addressing crucial healthcare issues with this budget. The proposed House budget contains a number of important provisions that will enhance quality and affordable care in the Commonwealth, including the creation of an emergency nursing home task force and a $30 million supplemental rate increase for nursing homes. These provisions will boost frontline healthcare workers and help to better regulate and stabilize this critical industry that so many Massachusetts families rely upon.
The budget also includes full funding for the state’s Personal Care Attendant program. The healthcare workers of 1199SEIU will continue to advocate for provisions like those in this budget, which improve quality care, enhance access and lift up the healthcare workforce.”
