"The Union Is You and Me"

February 10, 2014

Pam Febo has been a recreation aide at Green Knoll Center in Bridgewater, NJ, since 2004. In addition to being a union delegate, she has been a long-time participant in 1199SEIU's Martin Luther King, Jr. Political Action Fund (PAF). On February 6, she decided that she wanted to reaffirm her commitment to building political power for working families in New Jersey by increasing her monthly PAF contribution. Here's why:

"I’ve been an 1199 member and delegate for 10 years, negotiated three union contracts, and seen everything that goes into improving our jobs. Politics plays a very important part, especially when it comes to protecting nursing home funding.

“When people ask me, ‘Why should I give the union my money?’ I remind them that WE are the union—the dietary aide, the person with the mop and the bucket. The union is not someone up in a cloud somewhere—the union is you and me.

“Our Political Action Fund is our way to make our voices heard and that’s why I am proud to be a part of it!"
