A contingent of Florida nurse members from 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East will travel this week to New York City and join other top caregivers from numerous states at the 1199SEIU 2024 Nurse of Distinction Awards Gala.

RN Guillermo Lopez was one of a handful of members from 1199SEIU who attended the two-day training hosted by SEIU, Service Employees International Union.

The theme of this year’s National Nurses Week (May 6 – May 12) is "Nurses Make the Difference," honoring the incredible nurses who embody the spirit of compassion and care in every health care setting. As part of the celebration, a wide range of companies are offering great deals and discounts for nurses.

Registered Nurse Tonya Moore touches her patients in many ways. In addition to providing quality care to patients in UHealth Tower’s 11 South oncology department, Moore crochets hats, blankets and scarves for those who could use a thoughtful gift to help lift up their spirits.

More than 350 nurses from SEIU locals from numerous states recently gathered in Miami for a dynamic professional development conference and a dramatic rally that highlighted the staffing, retention and care crisis in healthcare facilities in Florida and across the country.
#
Supervisors at HCA Florida Regional Hospital had been failing to properly follow the staffing rotation and rules by regularly sending O.R. nurses home early before their shifts were supposed to end, forcing nurses to use their PTO.

From nurse degree programs and continuing education courses to citizenship classes, the 1199SEIU Training and Upgrading Fund has a variety of programs and resources to help UHealth Tower staff reach their educational goals.

Education is the key to a better future. Here are some of the scholarships, grants and tuition assistance programs available and how to access them.

There have been a host of victories for 1199SEIU Florida member nurses who work at UHealth Tower and Tenet Healthcare facilities, especially for longtime caregivers who are now more fairly compensated for their years of experience over new hires.
