From nurse degree programs and continuing education courses to citizenship classes, the 1199SEIU Training and Upgrading Fund has a variety of programs and resources to help UHealth Tower staff reach their educational goals.

The training and education benefits were negotiated as part of the collective bargaining agreement between 1199SEIU and the University of Miami Hospital and Clinics – UHealth Tower. Over the past year, the tuition reimbursement amounts have increased, and the eligibility criteria has been changed. Instead of the previous one-year requirement, employees who have been working at UHealth Tower for just 90 days are now eligible to apply for tuition reimbursements through this program.

“I am grateful for this program. I used the tuition reimbursements offered through the 1199SEIU Training and Upgrading Fund to get my bachelor’s degree as well as my master’s degree in Leadership and Management,” said Mery Uzquiano, a longtime Registered Nurse at UHT. “This program has been very beneficial for me because I was able to advance my career and increase my pay. I encourage my coworkers to take advantage of it.”

 

 

“It would have been so much more difficult to go back to school if I didn’t get tuition reimbursements through the 1199SEIU Training and Upgrading Fund.  We’re fortunate that our union offers this kind of benefit. The high cost of tuition shouldn’t be an obstacle to pursuing your dreams,” said Tonya Moore, Registered Nurse at UHT.
