First, I want to express my sincere appreciation for reelecting me as your Vice President. It's an honor and a job I take seriously. As a former CNA, I know well how hard you all work and the critically important role you play in providing compassionate care to our loved ones in nursing homes.

You have also recently elected a large team of new delegates throughout all our nursing homes in the state of Florida. These delegates have committed themselves to helping protect you and your contracts. Contact them when you need guidance or help.

This team, together with all our hardworking members, is what makes our union strong. We'll need this strength to help us weather storms that have been brewing since the Florida legislature cut state funding this year for many nursing homes. Despite this challenge, we've settled good contracts recently. By staying committed and united, bargaining teams representing numerous long-term care facilities have achieved higher starting salaries, secured more protections for their coworkers and themselves and set new standards for future employees. Since our commitment to work for justice extends beyond our workplaces, we must get ready for the 2020 election.

From the white house to the statehouse, the leaders we elect will have the power to fight with us for a $ 15 minimum wage, protect union rights, immigrant rights, combat climate change, expand access to quality, affordable healthcare and other critical issues. Stay engaged and active so we can show our power at the polls.

Making Progress Together In 2019

Bargaining teams across the state have negotiated a number of good contracts this year. Among them, Airamid Health Services. Securing this deal was no easy feat. That’s because it’s one of many Florida nursing homes facing cuts in state funding. Despite these fiscal challenges, the bargaining team won a strong contract that includes higher minimum wages, annual pay increases and a no layoff guarantee for 12 months! Congratulations team Airamid for this herculean achievement!

Mensaje de nuestra vicepresidente

Antes que nada, permítanme expresarles mi profundo agradecimiento por haberme reelegido como su vicepresidente. Es un honor y una labor que tomo muy en serio. Como ex auxiliar de enfermería certificada, soy consciente de la ardua labor que realizan y del papel fundamental que desempeñan en el cuidado compasivo de nuestros seres queridos en los hogares geriátricos.

Además, hace poco eligieron un gran equipo de nuevos delegados en todos nuestros hogares geriátricos del estado de Florida. Estos delegados se han comprometido a ayudarle a protegerse a sí mismo y a sus contratos. Comuníquese con ellos cuando necesite orientación o ayuda.

Este equipo, junto con todos nuestros esforzados colaboradores, es lo que fortalece a nuestro sindicato. Necesitamos de esta fortaleza para poder afrontar las tormentas que se han estado gestando desde que la legislatura de la Florida recortara los fondos estatales este año para muchos hogares geriátricos. A pesar de este desafío, hemos firmado buenos contratos recientemente.

Al mantenerse comprometidos y unidos los equipos de negociación que representan a numerosas instituciones de cuidados a largo plazo han podido lograr salarios iniciales superiores, mayor protección para sus compañeros de trabajo y para ellos mismos y establecer nuevos estándares para los futuros empleados.

Dado que nuestro compromiso de trabajar por la justicia va más allá de nuestros lugares de trabajo, debemos prepararnos para las elecciones de 2020. Desde la Casa Blanca hasta la Cámara de Diputados, los líderes que elijamos tendrán el poder de luchar con nosotros por un salario mínimo de $15, proteger los derechos sindicales, los derechos de los inmigrantes, combatir el cambio climático, ampliar el acceso a una atención médica de calidad y asequible y otros temas fundamentales. Manténganse comprometidos y activos para que podamos demostrar nuestro poder en las urnas.

Juntos progresando en 2019

Los equipos de negociación en todo el estado han negociado varios buenos contratos este año. Entre ellos, Airamid Health Services. No fue fácil obtener este contrato. Esto se debe a que es uno de los tantos hogares geriátricos de Florida que están enfrentando recortes en los fondos estatales. A pesar de estos desafíos fiscales, el equipo de negociación se adjudicó un importante contrato que incluye salarios mínimos mayores, aumentos salariales anuales y una garantía de no despido durante 12 meses. ¡Felicitaciones al equipo de Airamid por este hercúleo logro!
