UM Capital Region Medical Center, meet your newest Delegate, RN Tamara Burgess and wish her a happy work anniversary! Tamara has been a nurse at Capital Region since July 2020, and she gives care at the Critical Care Unit (CCU). She explained, “This unit is unique because we take care of patients who are either walking and talking or they can be sedated and on the vent. So, it’s a broad spectrum, so you have to be prepared to do anything where you go.” Read More

Hundreds of 1199SEIU homecare workers joined Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer at New York’s City Hall in lower Manhattan on May 4 to thank Senator Schumer, President Biden and their colleagues supporting the American Jobs Act. President Biden’s proposal includes $400 million over the next 10 years to help and reform the growing homecare industry. Read More
1199SEIU members’ Invest in Quality Care campaign scored another big win in May, when the NYS Assembly and Senate passed legislation that requires minimum staffing at all nursing homes. Both houses also passed a bill that addresses safe staffing levels in hospitals.
