On Sept 30th, 1199ers from across the state joined with fellow SEIU members to endorse Lieutenant Governor Anthony Brown to be the next Governor of Maryland. 1199SEIU members are supporting Anthony Brown for his long-standing work on behalf of Maryland’s working families and his leadership on health care in the state.Anthony Brown’s healthcare accomplishments include: · Leading efforts to address health disparities among racial and ethnic groups in Maryland, through innovative Health Enterprise Zones. · Helping to secure a $200 million from the state to build a new Regional Medical Center in Prince George’s County. · Coordinating state efforts to implement the Affordable Care Act and place Maryland at the forefront nationally when it comes to healthcare reform. · Securing nearly half a million dollars in training funds to help existing workers fill the healthcare jobs of tomorrow.Brown enthusiastically accepted the SEIU endorsement along with his running-mate, Howard County Executive Ken Ulman.“Maybe it was because he was raised by a doctor that Lieutenant Governor Brown understands that caregivers and other frontline workers, like me, are the heart of health care in Maryland,” Lanae Jones, an 1199 delegate from Baltimore, told the crowd. She also praised his “long-standing support for raising the state minimum wage.”The endorsement follows a unanimous vote of the SEIU Maryland/DC State Council.- See more at: http://www.1199seiu.org/1199_md_members_announce_endorsement_of_anthony_brown_for_governor#sthash.dRxdxdHx.dpuf
