Why We Support This Bill 

An Act to Prohibit Mandatory Overtime (Rep. Dan Cahill / Sen. Jacob Oliveira; HD.2024 / SD.1980)  

Extends the existing ban on mandatory overtime for nurses to the entire hospital care team to help reduce fatigue, burnout, and ultimately poorer quality health care. 

Act Requiring Health Care Employers to Develop and Implement Programs to Prevent Workplace Violence (HD.3502/ SD.1639); Rep. John Lawn / Sen. Joan Lovely) 

Requires all Massachusetts hospitals to develop comprehensive programs with worker engagement and protections to help reduce the risk of workplace violence.  

An Act to Address Conflicts of Interest in the use of Temporary Nursing Service Agencies at Skilled Nursing Facilities (Rep. Rita Mendes / Senator Dylan Fernandes; HD.2333 / SD.1836

Establishes conflict-of-interest rules prohibiting a temporary nursing agency owner from procuring or providing staff to a nursing home in which they also have an ownership interest.  

An Act to Strengthen the State Home Care Program Workforce (Rep. Frank Moran / Sen. Julian Cyr; HD.872 / SD.556

Promotes the uninterrupted delivery of home care services by establishing new “labor peace” processes allowing home care agency workers to more freely choose to join a labor organization, thereby improving working conditions, staff retention, and care quality.  

An Act to Improve Massachusetts Home Care  (Rep. Tom Stanley / Sen. Pat Jehlen; HD.1449 / SD.1036) 

Improves oversight over homecare agency employers, better prepares public health emergencies, and reduces the far-too-common abuse, discrimination, and workplace bullying of homecare workers and/or their consumer clients.   

Local Option for Rent Stabilization and Just-Cause Eviction (Sen. Pat Jehlen & Sen. Adam Gomez/Rep. Dave Rogers & Rep. Sam Montano; HD.2501/SD.1084

Creates a local option for rent stabilization with just-cause eviction protections to boost affordability and keep residents in Massachusetts.
