1199SEIU Members Attend the White House Conference on Aging

July 17, 2015

1199SEIU members recently attended the White House Conference on Aging. The White House has held a Conference on Aging each decade since the 1960s to identify and advance actions to improve the quality of life of older Americans. The 2015 White House Conference on Aging looked at issues that will help shape the landscape for older Americans and caregivers for the next decade.

Below, 1199SEIU PCA Jeanne Plessey of Brockton, MA, shares her impressions of the conference:

“This remarkable Sunday July 12th, and Monday, July 13th, 2015 will forever be in my mind. I traveled to Washington, D.C. and was part of the historic White House Conference on Aging, which has been held every decade since the 1960s.

The conference emphasized and prioritized elder long-term needs, security, and justice. As an advocate and winner of $15 per hour in Massachusetts, I will continue to fight to secure my day-to-day needs and for opportunities for all homecare workers nationwide.

I feel that my upcoming golden years are more secure than ever Home care workers from more than 25 states gathered together to make their voices heard at this conference. I know that knowledge is power. Action is the driven force behind this power. This is for what all home care workers stand for. Thanks to 1199SEIU, my dedicated union.”
