PCAs Stand Together for Quality Care and a Fair Overtime Policy!

October 17, 2016

While the Baker Administration continues to move forward with its PCA overtime management policy, we remain concerned about the impact that the strict cap of 40 hours per week will have on consumers and on our lives. Together with our allies in the disability community, we will remain vigilant in our advocacy.

We are making a difference. One of our demands was to delay the implementation process of the new overtime management policy. Originally, consumers had until September 1 to apply for an overtime exemption. However, due to our continued advocacy, the new deadline for consumers to apply for an overtime exemption is October 22!

While this is good news, restrictions to the continuous care we provide are still moving forward. We must remain vigilant in our activism and keep fighting for quality care.

We want to make sure you are fully informed about the new PCA overtime management policy. Click here to read the official notice from the state Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS), here to read the official EOHHS FAQ, and here for more EOHHS Overtime resources. We will continue to share more details about the PCA overtime management policy as they become available – check back here regularly for updates on the campaign!

As PCAs, we know the importance of continuous, quality care for elders and people with disabilities. That's why we are joining consumer employers in raising our voices, even while the state is moving forward with these regulations and restrictions to care.

Now is the time to take action.

There are three things that we as PCAs can do right now to stand up for continuous, quality care:

Contact Your Consumer Employer to apply for an exemption!

If you currently work overtime, contact your consumer employer(s) or consumer's surrogate and work with him/her to immediately complete this form to request an overtime exemption through their Personal Care Management agency. Overtime requests must be submitted by October 22.

Advocate to Your Legislators!

Email your legislators and ask them to stand with us in urging the Baker Administration to put quality care first.
