Hyannis, MA (June 27, 2017) In response to the announcement about layoffs resulting from Quest Diagnostics’ acquisition of Cape Cod Healthcare’s outreach laboratory services, Tyrék D. Lee, Sr., Executive Vice President of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, issued the following statement:

“Providing quality care and promoting good jobs across the Cape have been and continue to be our top priority. We are concerned about the impact these layoffs will have on our healthcare workforce and our ability to provide the care our community deserves. Our collective bargaining agreement ensures that the voice of frontline healthcare workers remains at the center of any discussion about layoffs, and it is our hope that through this process, the number of layoffs can be minimized. We will continue to engage in conversations with Cape Cod Health Care management to assess the full impact of these layoffs, explore alternatives, save jobs where possible and protect quality care.”
