Health care workers joined together Thursday to stand with the Black Lives Matter movement and speak out against racism.
Health care workers at Brookdale Hospital took a moment to reflect on George Floyd’s death and all of those who have died at the hands of police. They sent out a message by walking out in solidarity.
The peaceful protests happened at several other hospitals in the city and are organized by the health care union 11-99 as a way to shed light on what they say has been years of police brutality and continued discrimination.
Hospital workers took a knee for eight minutes and 46 seconds, the amount of time that a Minneapolis police officer was seen on video holding his knee against the neck of handcuffed George Floyd.
The workers say kneeling helps them reflect on what Floyd went through.
Health care workers tell News 12 they hope that Thursday's protest will help to bring about change in the fight against injustice.
