“The 2023 Florida Legislation has begun, and our powerful organization of healthcare workers will fight to protect patients, caregivers and our communities.

We will focus on getting laws passed that ensure quality care and protecting, respecting and investing in patients, residents and workers. A critical part of this is to solve the staffing, retention, and care crises in our state’s hospitals and nursing homes.

We will push for legislation that ensures transparency and accountability from healthcare companies receiving billions of our tax dollars as well as provide incentives for those organizations that deliver high performance and on their promises.

Floridians deserve accessible, quality healthcare, as well as other essential needs such as affordable housing, good jobs, fair pay, and safe schools and communities. Our union of 35,000 active and retired caregivers, plus coalition partners of many more, look forward to working with any and all Florida lawmakers during this session who support and share these priorities.”

Roxey Nelson is Executive Vice President of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, the largest union of healthcare workers in Florida.
