On Thursday, May 24, the 1199SEIU Negotiating Committee, representing workers at Jordan Health Center who have been working to bargain a new union contract for the past seven months, unanimously accepted the Federal Mediator’s settlement proposal, a compromise for both sides.
“We are hopeful that Jordan Health’s Board of Directors will also agree to compromise by accepting the Federal Mediator's proposal,” said Minerva Felix-Torres, a 39-year employee of Anthony L. Jordan and a member of the Negotiating Committee. “It is time to put this behind us and get back our shared goal of providing the best quality care to our patients and the community that depends on us.”
The Federal Mediator’s settlement proposal, submitted on May 18, would give Jordan Health Center financial relief in 2018 while maintaining health benefits and granting modest pay increases in 2019 and 2020. Acceptance of the proposal would also end a lengthy, costly and disruptive, labor dispute that resulted in a worker walk-out late last month. As of today, May 30, Jordan Health’s Board President, Allen Williams, has yet to respond to the Federal Mediator’s proposal.
