My Experience at the RN Leadership Retreat

A few of my E800 colleagues and I attended our first 1199SEIU leadership conference, and, boy, was it more than we could have hoped for! The location at National Harbor was beautiful. The food, fellowships, speakers, and workshops were all excellent! We all walked away feeling enlightened as to how we make things happen with our union and energized to keep our workplace moving forward. Below are some important facts that I want to share with you.
Of the 28 big work-related guarantees of which we reap the benefits, only three are guaranteed to us by law. The remaining 25 we have negotiated with the help of our union. Those that the law requires are that management provide FMLA leave, time-and-a-half overtime compensation, and workers’ compensation.
