October 15, 2013

On October 11h, 1199SEIU New Jersey Executive Vice President Milly Silva, the Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor and running mate of gubernatorial candidate Barbara Buono, participated in a televised debate with her Republican opponent, Kim Guadagno. The debate was held at Kean University in Union, NJ, and broadcast live on News12 New Jersey.

During the debate, Silva drew a clear contrast between Gov. Chris Christie’s record and the key priorities of a Buono administration—fixing New Jersey’s broken economy and getting people back to work. She pointed out that New Jersey has one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation and that poverty has reached a level not seen in over a half century.

Silva also underscored the fact that the current administration is out of step with the majority of people in New Jersey on a variety of issues, including raising the minimum wage and marriage equality.
