HOMECARE WORKERS GATHERED AT CITY HALL
June 16, 2021
In May 2021, over 100 1199SEIU home care members gathered at NYC City Hall. We thanked Senator Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for coming to the rally and pledging to fight for $400 billion to fund home care jobs as part of President Biden’s proposed American Jobs Plan. The American Jobs Plan calls for allocating money to raise wages, improve benefits and make it easier for workers to bargain collectively. Senator Schumer took three 1199 home care masks and pledged to wear them in Washington as he fights to secure funding for home care workers.
Senator Charles Schumer thanking 1199 homecare workers for working on the frontlines during the COVID pandemic.
1199 Member Lileth Clacken, “Throughout the pandemic, I continued working and remained a consistent presence in the life of my client, who is a vulnerable senior citizen and requires assistance with almost all the activities of daily living…..Tens of thousands of my fellow homecare workers did the same. We got on trains and buses and took long trips to our clients’ homes to make sure we were there for the seniors and people with disabilities who need us. Out of a deep sense of dedication and love, we risked our own health and the health of our families to make sure we were there for our clients.”
