Nurses at Brookdale Hospital are currently on the front line in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.
The hospital tells News 12 it is the first in the borough doing rapid 24-hour testing for its sickest patients to better help them. The nurses are echoing Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s demand for more protective equipment.
They say they have seen the worst of what the coronavirus can do to people and are urging everyone to follow the rules.
Scheena Iyande Tannis says she has been working extra shifts like many health care professionals putting themselves at risk, despite having families at home.
"I have two young children that both have asthma. I have an aging mom who has a host of predisposing factors,” said Tannis.
Rose Michele Pitton, another registered nurse, says she is taking precautions to keep her grandchild safe.
“This is not a place that you want to be in if you don't absolutely need to be here,” said Pitton.
They are hoping everyone else does their part in this fight.
