Statement on The Trump Administration Ruling To Strip Nearly 200,000 Salvadorians of Their Temporary Protection Status
January 8, 2018
New York, NY – 1199SEIU President George Gresham has released the following statement regarding the Trump Administration’s latest actions on Temporary Protect Status, affecting hundreds of thousands of Salvadorans living in the United States:
“The Trump Administration has ruled to strip nearly 200,000 Salvadorans of the protections afforded to them under Temporary Protected Status.
“As with the Haitians effected by a previous, decision, those affected by this ruling have been living in the US for more than a decade. They have raised families here, and now must choose between leaving their U.S. born children in the care of guardians, or defying the ruling. We cannot allow families to be torn apart as a result of partisan politics, and campaign promises that hurt hardworking men and women.
“We urge our Congressional representatives to protect the working families who stand to lose so much by the stroke of a presidential pen.
“We are better than this.
“1199SEIU remains committed to standing strong and united for a path to citizenship for the working families whose hard work and dedication make our nation great.”
