You Can Help the Relief Effort in Puerto Rico
October 13, 2017
1199 healthcare workers are taking action in response to the crisis in Puerto Rico after the island was devastated by hurricanes Irma and Maria. There are 67 hospitals on the island and currently, 50 of those hospitals are operating on a generator. Many are running short of supplies.
In New York State, in partnership with the Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA), we are working to provide medical equipment, medicine, bandages and other supplies that patients and healthcare workers depend on.
The Governor of Puerto Rico has requested the help of medical personnel and healthcare workers who can assist in care delivery efforts. The current priority call is for RNs and Physician Assistants. (Workers with engineering and other special skills who can help repair and rebuild Puerto Rico’s healthcare infrastructure will be called upon at another time.)
Below you will find the list of 1199SEIU health systems that have currently stepped up and responded to the call for medical support. If you work at one of these participating institutions and this sounds like something you are willing to do, please fill out the form below and we will be in touch with you. Please note that filling out the form does not guarantee that you will be deployed. Don’t forget to include an email address and a current phone number, so we can keep you updated about the emergency efforts.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Nurses and PAs who work at institutions that are currently not participating, can still sign up and we will update you if, and when, your institution makes a decision to take part in the deployment program.
