1199 was first organized in 1932 as a union of pharmacists and drugstore employees. Pharmacists are experts in the field of medicines, how they are used and their effects on the human body. As well as being responsible for dispensing prescriptions, pharmaceutical workers are involved in the purchasing and quality testing of medicines and in advising patients on the safe use of medications to achieve good health.
