1199 Grannie Speaks Out on Tax Day

April 16, 2012

Each year around this time, working people do their part to support the programs that make life better for everyone, by paying income taxes. Those taxes help to fund schools, roads, healthcare facilities and many of the programs and services we count on.

This Tax Day, April 17, a broad coalition of community, labor, student, faith and Occupy groups are coming together for a statewide day of action, demanding that banks, big corporations and the wealthiest New Yorkers pay their fair share.

They are protesting the fact that while billions of dollars are spent on tax subsidies and corporate giveaways, essential programs that provide health care and education are being slighted.

Take a look at what 1199SEIU retiree (Sylvia of the 1199 Grannies!) has to say!
