1199ers Rally in DC for Immigration Reform
January 1, 19701199SEIU members gathered with hundreds of immigration reform activists on July 10 on the United States Capitol lawn in Washington, DC, while House Republicans met to discussion immigration reform. DREAMers, families, and representatives from local organizations rallied to put pressure on House Republicans to include a path to citizenship in immigration reform. Jennifer Bangura, a cashier at Georgetown University Hospital, attended the rally with fellow 1199ers to show support for immigration reform. "As hot as it was outside, people came out with their kids to rally in the heat," said Bangura. "That really moved me." Born in Jamaica and a DC resident for 30 years, Bangura is empathetic to the plight of individuals and families struggling to become citizens. "I know a lot of people who had to deal with problems with their residency," she said. "I think everyone should care about this issue. When you are a citizen in this country, you have better benefits for your family and yourself." - See more at: http://www.1199seiu.org/1199ers_rally_in_dc_for_immigration_reform#sthash.fxsQ6vB1.dpuf
