The largest healthcare union in Massachusetts, 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, issued the following statement today regarding hospital staffing in Massachusetts:
"The issue of staffing in our hospitals is an ongoing concern for every single kind of healthcare worker. It is one that impacts every hospital profession across the board from the lab to the kitchen to the operating room. We are stakeholders in the broader conversation on staffing and the healthcare workers of 1199SEIU are here to remind all parties involved – including employers – that we will not stand idly by if nurse ratios are used as an excuse to cut other staff. Service, clerical, and technical staff will not be used as a bartering chip in this debate.” - Veronica Turner, Executive Vice President, 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East
