Baltimore 1199ers Masquerade as "MILLIONAIRE$ 4 MITT"

March 31, 2012

Members of 1199 joined activists Thursday evening in Baltimore to stage a mock celebration of the Romney nomination and the Republican economic platform that clearly benefits the richest Americans. The dressed-to-the-nines revelers marched from conservative watering hole The Ropewalk through trendy Federal Hill, carrying signs reading "Yachts, Not Schools!"Organizers explained they sought to highlight Romney's plans to lavish huge tax cuts on the richest households, while cutting funding for programs that help middle- and low-income Americans.Under a plan put forward by running mate Paul Ryan and praised by Romney, programs that help ordinary Americans would lose a trillion dollars, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Federal programs that would face cuts include Pell Grants for college students, funding for local first responders, and job training for out-of-work Americans. The Ryan budget also cuts taxes for the average millionaire household by $265,000, while forcing middle-class households to pick up the tab. In order to make such cuts budget neutral, the federal government would have to eliminate most middle-class tax breaks like the mortgage interest deduction and child care tax credit, costing average families an extra $2,100 a year, according to the Bipartisan Policy Center.- See more at: http://www.1199seiu.org/baltimore_1199ers_masquerade_as_millionaire_4_mitt#sthash.fOhiwdCX.dpuf
