R&B Concert in Urbanna Will Bring Together Old-School Hit Makers for “Raise Our Voices” Fundraiser

Organizers say now more than ever we must mobilize voters for good jobs, voting rights, healthcare & education

Urbanna, Virginia- On Friday, August 29th, a “Raise Our Voices” concert of old-school R&B hit makers will be held to support voter mobilization, advocacy for good jobs and other issues that are vital to the local community. The concert will feature a host of notable R&B artists including The Manhattans (Kiss and Say Goodbye), Lenny Williams (Cause I Love You), Angela Winbush (Angel), GQ (I Do Love You) and Kathy Sledge (We Are Family) of the Grammy award winning group Sister Sledge. Tickets are $15 and available at the door. Proceeds go to the State Conference of Virginia NAACP.

“It’s going to be a great night of R&B and soul music for the whole family plus an opportunity to contribute to an important cause,” said George Gresham, President of 1199SEIU, the healthcare workers union that is sponsoring the concert. “1199SEIU is proud to work with the NAACP to ensure that the voices of working families are heard at the polls this November. Now more than ever, it’s crucial for us to raise our voices for good jobs, voting rights, education, healthcare, equal treatment under the law and other pressing issues. These are the kinds of timeless hits that everyone from toddlers to grandmothers can dance to, and it will be a fun night filled with love, respect, unity and great music.”
