Rochester, NY 1199ers Host Inaugural Ball and Martin Luther King Celebration
January 25, 2013
1199SEIU hosted an Inaugural Gala and Martin Luther King Celebration at Rochester’s Harro East Ballroom on Inauguration night. Over 200 union members and community activists attended the red carpet party.
Music was performed by local band We the People and 1199 member Dana Dane served as DJ. The “Dress to Impress Affair” was a great opportunity for reminiscing over the electoral victories of the previous year and to remind those gathered of Martin Luther King’s advocacy of the importance of labor and especially the work of 1199.
VP Bruce Popper spoke about Mattie Best, a founding member of the Union at Strong Hospital who recently passed away. Everyone who attended received a copy of the program book and a free professional couple photograph by photographer Daron Warrick.
