Iselin, NJ – Members of the largest long-term care union in the state, 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East (UHWE), will gather at the headquarters of Seniors Management-North, Inc. in Cherry Hill today to ask for a fair contract for workers at four New Jersey nursing homes. Workers and community members are taking action to support Seniors employees at four facilities located in Barnegat, Galloway, Manchester Township and Wanaque.
Participants will gather at the company’s headquarters at 4:00pm to submit over 3,000 signatures from fellow caregivers and community members from across the state who support their fight for better wages, affordable healthcare benefits, a secure retirement, and continued training opportunities.
Contracts at the four facilities expired earlier this year, and a new settlement between management and workers has not yet been reached. Today’s action is part of an ongoing campaign to inform New Jersey residents and public officials about the need to secure fair contracts for workers in order to improve standards and maintain quality residential care.
Seniors employees are asking for a minimal annual wage increase and for the preservation of existing health, retirement and training benefits, so that they can continue to provide for their own families at the same time they care for families of those in the community.
