More than 200 workers at the Syracuse nursing facility now united in the state’s largest and fastest growing healthcare union

Nursing home workers at James Square Health and Rehabilitation Centre in Syracuse have overwhelmingly signed on to join 1199SEIU, United Healthcare Workers East.

Karl Hills, who has worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at James Square for the past seven years, said: “I voted yes so that we could stand together to negotiate better pay and a fair and just working environment.”

Tia Davis, another CNA at the facility, said she voted for 1199SEIU because: “By working together in the union we can stand up for better wages for healthcare workers and quality care for our residents.”

As well as having a larger say in their working lives, the newest 1199SEIU members at James Square voted to join our union to negotiate for the high-quality pension, affordable healthcare, educational benefits and job security that thousands of 1199SEIU members enjoy.
