Statement on Gun Violence Following Bronx-Lebanon Shooting
July 6, 2017
We are shocked by the senseless and horrific shooting that occurred at Bronx Lebanon Hospital on Friday. The mass shooting took the life of Dr. Tracy Tam, injured several healthcare workers, and sent shockwaves throughout our hospital and our city. Because of the brave healthcare workers, doctors, and nurses who leapt to care in the time of terrible crisis, many lives were saved that afternoon.
1199 healthcare workers are joining their sisters and brothers from NYSNA and CIR/SEIU in a candlelight vigil to remember Dr. Tam as well as NYPD officer Miosotis Familia, who was fatally shot in the Bronx early Wednesday morning. The loss of both lives is a reminder that we must continue our fight for sensible gun reform in every state. Through the candlelight vigil healthcare workers and community members hope to promote a message of peace and reconciliation against gun violence.
