BOSTON, MA (September 21, 2016) Workers at Medical Resources Home Health Corp. overwhelmingly ratified a new two-year contract, the first contract at the company and the first contract with a private homecare provider in Massachusetts since the 2005 merger creating the current configuration of our union.

On Tuesday, September 20, PCAs joined our allies in the disability and elderly communities to rally at the Massachusetts State House for a fair overtime management policy. While the Baker Administration continues to move forward with its implementation of the PCA overtime management policy, PCAs and consumers remain concerned about the impact that the strict cap of 40 hours per week will have on quality care and services.

Living up to the reputation of “political powerhouse,” the hard work of 1199SEIU members once again played an important role in achieving victory for all seventeen of the 1199-backed candidates in the 2016 NYS Primary election. The endorsed candidates, almost all running for a seat in the Assembly or Senate, and all committed to the 1199 Action Platform, were supported with a door-to-door field effort and/or communications program.

1199SEIU Florida members at eight Airamed nursing homes banded together early and showed management they meant business. The bargaining committee was able to secure the raises for all employees, including raising the minimums for certified nursing assistants and cooks, as well as for dietary, housekeeping and other. The increases will take place over the next two years.

Between May and July of this year, caregivers at Tenet Hospitals were part of the first trial of new online ADO Forms. Whenever a caregiver had concerns about their assignment or staffing during their shift, they were able to report it from their phone.
