BUFFALO, N.Y. – Healthcare workers within the nursing, clinical, technical, service, and clerical departments at Kaleida Health, who are represented by CWA Local 1168 and 1199SEIU, have overwhelmingly voted in favor of authorizing a strike should it be necessary. Having already extended their contract twice after months of bargaining, workers are exhausted and fed up with staffing shortages that have increased their patient loads exponentially and compromised the quality of care. They are seeking a fair contract that will enable Kaleida Health to recruit and retain critical staff and meet its new safe staffing ratios as required by state law, so that patients receive the quality care they need and deserve.

Buffalo, NY – Nearly 350 Nursing Home Workers at four area for-profit facilities overwhelmingly ratified multi-year contracts late last week, while workers at two facilities authorized 5-day strikes in their continued fight for a fair contract. Caregivers are part of a joint campaign of more than 1,200 nursing home workers at 12 for-profit facilities across Western New York who held one-day strikes mid-July.

New York, NY—Today, 1199SEIU homecare workers testified at the City Council’s Civil Service and Labor Committee regarding Intro 175. This bill restricts the maximum working hours of homecare workers but is written in such a way that would cause major disruption to homecare services throughout the city, jeopardizing care, jobs, and capping workers’ ability to earn overtime pay.
