1199SEIU praise the Massachusetts House and Senate for passing legislation that will improve oversight and regulation of the state’s healthcare system in response to the Steward Healthcare crisis, reduce the cost of prescription drugs and advance health equity.

Tim Foley, 1199SEIU Executive Vice President, released the following statement in response to the State of Massachusetts seizing St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Boston by eminent domain, and the sale of five other Steward hospitals to new buyers with state support.
The healthcare workers of 1199SEIU are angered by the reported breakdown in negotiations to transfer both campuses of Holy Family Hospital to a new owner.

Steward Healthcare’s declaration of Chapter 11 bankruptcy and its impact on the numerous communities currently served by the Steward-owned hospitals in the Commonwealth is of concern to MNA, 1199SEIU and other members of the Our Community Our Hospital coalition.

Boston, MA (January 22, 2018) - More than 400 healthcare workers with 1199SEIU will soon receive a wage boost to $15/hour as part of an agreement with Steward Health Care.
BOSTON, MA (August 2, 2016) – Members of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East employed at eight hospital campuses operated by Steward Health Care have voted overwhelmingly to ratify a new labor agreement with the largest operator of community hospitals in Massachusetts. 1199SEIU is the largest and fastest-growing union of healthcare workers in Massachusetts. Steward Health Care is the fifth largest employer in Massachusetts.
