1199 Welcomes Caregivers from Auburn Nursing Home

March 24, 2015

On February 27, workers at Auburn Nursing Home voted to join 1199SEIU. The 63 Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) were motivated to join 1199 for various reasons including short staffing, unfair discipline, lack of respect on the job, as well as a lack of pay increase in four years and an inability to qualify for paid time off.

As Jennifer Simons, a CNA with the facility said “I am ready for a change.”

“I felt that with a union, I will be able to achieve job security in the work place and a voice,” said Dawn Knickerbocker, an LPN with Auburn. “Plus, with our union, I will be able to further my education!”

By joining with 1199, they plan to make Auburn Nursing Home a better environment for both staff and residents.
