150 Upstate NY Nursing Home Workers Vote to Join 1199SEIU

November 26, 2012

One hundred fifty caregivers and other workers with Williamsville Suburban nursing home in Williamsville, NY voted overwhelmingly to join 1199SEIU on November 2. These new members include licensed practical nurses (LPNs), certified nursing assistants (CNAs), unit secretaries and maintenance personnel.

The workers voted for 1199SEIU so that they can fight for job security, a voice in resident care and fair wages.

“Our union will help us provide better staffing and bring fairness to our workplace,” said Valerie Booth, a CNA with Williamsville Suburban. “We will have a voice to advocate for the supplies we need to do our job.”

“We are standing together for job security and a higher quality of resident care,” said Beth Lukas, an LPN with the nursing home.

The Williamsville Suburban workers are joining with 1199SEIU’s over 350,000 members, including more than 21,000 healthcare workers in upstate New York.
