Central New York 1199’s Purple Gold Hold’s Picnic at Delta Lake State Park

August 27, 2013

With sand pails and shovels in tow, 1199SEIU members in New York’s Mohawk Valley region gathered August 10 to picnic on the beach at Delta Lake State Park in Rome, NY.

Hosted by Purple Gold, the 1199 younger workers’ group, this picnic, a first for members in the Rome/Utica area, was planned to bring workers from different facilities together and welcome members from the newly organized The Pines of Utica to the 1199 family.

In between basking in the summer sun, playing volleyball, and swimming on the beautiful beach, nursing home workers from across the region enjoyed a smorgasbord of delicious member-prepared side dishes, hamburgers and hotdogs from the grill, and cake and ice cream for dessert.

Rick Coromato, a maintenance worker at Masonic Care Community in Utica and a member of the Delta Lake Picnic planning committee, has high hopes for this event in the future. “This was a great event, and it will only get better. This is the first time we’ve done this but once the word gets out I think we will have twice as many people here next year.”
