Western NY 1199 Activists Canvass the Community in Support of Rep. Kathy Hochul

September 19, 2012

1199 members from western New York have been mobilizing throughout 2012, registering their communities to vote and to stand up for quality care and jobs. By standing with candidates like Congresswoman Kathy Hochul and President Barack Obama, they can help decide the direction of America for generations to come.

On Saturday, September 15, 1199SEIU activists canvassed the Amherst, Hamburg area to talk to voters about what is at stake this election.“Former Erie County Executive Chris Collins is looking to take his anti-worker, anti-public services agenda to Washington DC,” said Lamarr Truesdale, an 1199 Delegate at Kaleida Health in Buffalo. “His policy of being an advocate for the 1% and destroying vital public services, didn’t work for Erie County and won’t work in Washington. We will work to send Rep. Hochul back to DC so she can continue to stand up for Medicare, public health and working families in WNY”

In the short time Rep. Hochul has been in Congress, she has fought for tax cuts for middle-class families and small business to protect workers. While Chris Collins served as county executive, he closed health clinics, slashed WIC programs for struggling parents, and attempted to lay off hundreds of county workers!

Every weekend in October, 1199ers in the region be working on Rep. Hochul campaign locally and engaging in the “Weekend Warrior” program in Erie, PA to help re-elect President Obama. For more information, please contact Maurice Brown at 716-995-3702 or via email at Maurice.brown@1199.org
